Research at ARU

Ardhi University (ARU), starting from 2007, is one of the new public Universities in Tanzania formed as a result of implementation of an institutional transformation programme the then University College of Lands and Architectural Studies (UCLAS), which was a constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam. As a public higher education institution, ARU primary business is teaching, research and public services for improved quality of life of Tanzanians. The ARU research vision is become a reputable center for excellency for advanced scientific knowledge through research and publications, with a mission of enhancement of contract and sponsored research and dissemination of research results through publications in the fields of land, environment and human settlement development and management. The Directorate of Postgraduate studies, Research and Publication is charge of quality control activities in the University, through the Higher Degrees Research and Publication Committee (HDRPC). The HDRPC is responsible for approval of research proposals, funding and approval of research reports. Similar committees at the departmental and Schools levels assist the university HDRPC committee.

Research links /partnerships

The University has established a number of research collaborative links, such as the University of Arizona and Urban Management (IHS) of Netherlands etc. Efforts are underway to establish and maintain links with a Research Institute of France government (IFRA) based in Nairobi. There are good working relations with international collaborators (e.g. VICRES, AAU; UNESCO; NUFFIC/MHO; Sida/SAREC; NUFU; NORAD; DANIDA ENRECA Programme, Carnegie and Habitat).

The University needs also continues to improve and promote research links with local institutions: These include:

  • Local and Central Government (e.g. Ministries of Science, Technology and Higher Education; Industries; Lands and Human Settlements Development; Regional Administration and Local Government. Works; Water; Energy and Minerals; Agriculture; Transport and Communication; National Planning Commission; Office of Vice President (Environmental Section)
  • COSTECH
  • Industrial sector in Tanzania (public and private)
  • National industrial representative bodies (ICT, TCCIA)
  • National professional bodies (NCPS, NBAQS, IET; ERB; NCC)
